LGBTQIA+ and BPD Peer Support Group
Emotions Matter is launching a BPD Peer Support Group for people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and have lived experience Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
This group is facilitated by volunteers who identify as LGBTQIA+ and have lived experience of BPD. The group follows a structured series of topics which include: the queer experience of BPD, managing relationships, navigating identity, coping strategies, community and social support, and more.
BPD is experienced differently by each individual person, depending on their symptoms and how symptoms affect their thoughts, behaviors, relationships, and functioning. How BPD symptoms affect diverse sexual and gender identities is not well researched in the field of BPD.
The purpose of this BPD Support Group is to provide a safe space for community members who identify as LGBTQIA+ to share their unique experiences, in a supportive environment. Topics will include navigating relationships and identity, advocacy, shame, and societal pressures.
This group is currently offered as a pilot program by Emotions Matter and our volunteers.
This BPD Peer Support Group does not replace medical advice or treatment. Resources are available for those seeking more information about BPD and support. Group registrants will be asked to complete pre- and post-meeting surveys to provide feedback about the group experience and help Emotions Matter better understand the needs of the BPD community.
